LINDEN, Ind. (CNS) – Mrs. Emma Pitchford, 88, of Linden, Ind., died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 5, 1971) at the Americana Nursing Home in Champaign. She had been a patient at Carle Foundation Hospital and the nursing home since April 28. The last of eight children, she was born April 12, 1883, near Greencastle, Ind., a daughter of William L. and Mary Ellen Smith Torr. She was married Aug. 19, 1905, in Terre Haute to James Harley Pitchford, who died in December, 1948. Mrs. Pitchford resided in Greencastle until 1945 when she moved to Linden. She has resided there ever since. She was a life member of the Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Greencastle Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mildred) Baird of Fairmount and Mrs. V. L. (Almeda) Larkin of Cloverdale, Ind.; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a nephew, Charles E. Torr of Clarkston, Mich., whom Mrs. Pitchford raised. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Helm Funeral Home in Linden, with the Rev. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at Greencastle. Friends may call from 4 to 5:30 and after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Helm Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to a favorite charity. – jlr
